Dear friends and Sunnyvale neighbors,
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your council member these past four years. It has been an honor to ensure that the families of our city thrive. Our City continues to provide the opportunities and services our residents value, and has taken great strides to amplify the voices of our community members in shaping our future.
My first priority as your council member is helping our families and businesses navigate these times. The pandemic is already changing many things about our community. It will continue to change how we communicate and how leaders connect with residents.
Other things are changing locally, as well. On March 3, 2020, by a large majority, the voters passed Measure B, which calls for council members to be selected from geographic districts and that the Mayor be elected to represent the entire city. On April 27,2020 the Sunnyvale City Council certified those election results, officially implementing the measure. Our communities will now have local representation — enabling more people to consider serving on Council. More diverse and representative voices on our Council strengthens democracy and gives our neighborhoods stronger voices at City Hall.
When the residents of Sunnyvale are empowered on November 3, 2020 to select a directly-elected mayor, I am excited to announce that voters will have the option of selecting me, Nancy Smith, for the role.
With the current public health crisis, each day seems to pass more slowly than the last. When thinking about November, it feels like a lifetime away, but only 188 days remain until Election Day. Only 158 days remain until ballots arrive. In the coming weeks I will be sharing information with you about my experience and motivations, as well as the top issues our city needs to address. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to me at mayor@nancysmith.org.
Thank you again for your support. I look forward to our conversations, hearing about your concerns and priorities as we set a can-do tone for our city. Please continue to stay safe and contact me if you or your family need any assistance.
Warmest regards to you and your loved ones.
Nancy Smith
